This body of work examines the connection between textiles, body and mind. Each object represents a relationship, a conversation, or a memory with a being. Geometric patterns create narratives of color, texture, and shape. Naturally dyed fibers signify a place. The prickly pear cacti, harvested by my mother, colors yarn that is tufted into a hand bearing a ballooned shape. I use cloth to represent the body where it is not present. Two empty collars indicate a human connection or the anticipation of one.
I engage with textiles as I do with my own mind, searching for a balance between chaos and control. Working With my hands is a constant and stable place to return. A means to process, organize, rip and reconnect both object and mind. Stitching provides me with a sense of control in an ever changing landscape.
