This new body of textile work, explores the obsessive collecting of life ephemera and its influence on pattern. Through woven drawings and wall relief sculptures, I use collections of hair clippings and saved envelopes, objects ordinarily considered futile to draw inspiration and alter into new forms. Searching for a balance between chaos and control, I use sewing as a tool to organize thoughts and textiles into a cohesive order. I pulled from my archives of materials and memories to work from a place of instinct, gravitating towards metaphor rather than logic. I see the metaphors embedded in textile language to overlap with that of human behavior. In “Reverse Darkness” I am comparing the textile language of reverse applique to my own ability to reverse the darkness inside of me. In “Your Weave is Broken; I will never fix you” a piece of fabric that is so broken it will never be fixed continues to split with each sewn mend, comparable to a broken relationship that will never heal.
