The first rendition of this jacket was made for Rebecca Burgess and the Fibershed Project.
A collaboration, the jacket connected the alpaca to felting to fine tailoring in one object.
Three variations of the jacket documented in the series of images below.
In response to the limited amount of woven fabric available to this project, I was forced to think differently about my process and work with materials that I had not used before. The regional limitation put forth by Rebecca's project and the limitation within the preciousness of the material itself was interesting to me. By using an entire fleece of an alpaca and turning that into felt, there is a limit in material, I am forced to work within this framework and design accordingly. By working directly with farmers, animals and artisans and honoring each for their skills and resources, a beautiful union continues to be made.
